Zelenskyy told ABC Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire

President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an “energy ceasefire,” an announcement he made on his Truth Social network that offered no details of the purported agreement or how it would operate.

“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” Trump wrote.

The Guardian, which reported the post in a live-updates blog, described the arrangement as purported and said it would carry further developments as they arrived. The account of the announcement contained no confirmation from the Russian or Ukrainian governments, and Trump’s post did not include any.

The announcement came shortly after Zelenskyy told ABC on Sunday that Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire, including on energy infrastructure.

Trump’s post followed his criticism of Zelenskyy over Ukrainian attacks on Russian diesel facilities, which the U.S. president blames for global shortages. Trump has tied those strikes to fuel prices beyond the front line.

In the post, Trump did not say which facilities or operations the ceasefire would cover, how it would be monitored, or how it would be enforced, beyond his statement that it was effective immediately.

The claim concerns the energy front of the war specifically, rather than a general halt to fighting, and it rests on Trump’s assertion that both governments had agreed. No further detail on the terms, the duration, or the parties’ consent was reported.
