Miliband gives ‘bit of defence’ to Trump’s broader energy ceasefire idea
Ed Miliband said Britain is willing to coordinate with the European Union on the question of Russian sovereign assets, according to a Guardian live blog on European developments.
“Europe has big decisions to make, including on Russian sovereign assets. I think we need to return to this issue,” Miliband said, according to the Guardian. “Britain is willing to do this alongside the European Union, because, look, we know that every wrong message that is sent to President Putin is a is a message that sets back our security and sets back the Ukrainian cause, and we need to send the right messages.”
On Trump’s idea of a “broader energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine, the Guardian wrote that Miliband “gives a fairly broad answer, with a bit of defence for Trump’s idea,” before he said that Europe needs to “redouble our efforts on sanctions.”
The Guardian’s live blog in which the Miliband remarks appeared also tracked shipping incidents in the Black Sea, drone activity affecting Bulgaria, and statements from France, Spain, and Sweden, along with diplomatic activity from the Vatican under Pope Leo.
