Ann Altman missed three court-ordered medical exams, judge said
US District Judge Zachary Bluestone dismissed with prejudice the lawsuit Ann Altman filed against her brother, OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman. In a written order, Bluestone said Ann Altman did not appear for an independent medical examination on three separate occasions despite “multiple accommodations and multiple opportunities to do so.”
“Because Annie has continued to violate her discovery obligations and forced this case to a halt through her intransigence, the Court has run out of options and, thus, dismisses her claims with prejudice,” Bluestone wrote. He said Ann Altman had been warned that failing to appear would result in the case being thrown out, and that she “failed to meaningfully prosecute her case.”
Ann Altman filed the lawsuit on 6 January 2025 in the Eastern District of Missouri. She claimed her older brother sexually abused her regularly between 1997 and 2006, beginning when she was three years old and he was 12.
Sam Altman has denied the accusations. At the time of the filing, he joined his mother and two brothers in a joint statement saying the family was concerned for Ann Altman’s wellbeing and had spent years trying to support her financially and look after her wellbeing.
The family said her claims against Sam Altman had “changed drastically over time” but that all of the claims were “utterly untrue.” Ann Altman receives monthly financial support, the family said, and her bills and rent are also covered.
The family has said Ann Altman has mental health challenges and that they have tried to assist with medical help. They have said the claims were made as she continued to demand more funds.
Sam Altman is the co-founder of OpenAI, which launched its ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot in 2022.
