They told us it was about the babies. They told us it was about drawing a moral line in the sand and stopping the murder. But take a look at the receipt from the last twelve months.
Trump’s tax and policy law didn’t just draw a line. It took a goddamn machete to the clinic. It cut off Medicaid billing for any provider taking in over $800,000 a year. And what did that actually do? It didn’t just target abortion. It shut down clinics. It told working women on Medicaid that they were going to wait for their breast cancer screenings. It told a scared twenty-year-old that she couldn’t get an STI test because the “pro-life” party decided her basic preventive care was collateral damage for their culture war.
For a whole fucking year, Health Imperatives, Maine Family Planning, and Planned Parenthood were blocked from billing Medicaid for birth control, cancer screenings, and STI tests. A whole year of women being told no. A whole year of clinics locking their doors because the people in charge care more about a talking point than a mammogram.
Now they’re turning the billing back on. Oh, isn’t that generous? They broke your healthcare, starved the clinics, and then handed back the Medicaid card like they just did you a favor. And the best part? Not all the services are coming back. The damage is done. The cancers they missed this year don’t un-detect themselves. The infections they didn’t treat don’t un-spread.
They used the abortion ban as a Trojan horse to defund basic healthcare for poor and working women. They wrapped their cruelty in a flag and called it family values. But we saw the bill. We know who paid for their moral superiority.
Eat shit. You didn’t save a single life this year; you just made sure the women you claimed to care about couldn’t afford to keep their own.
