New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed a City Council bill that would require Amazon, FedEx and other companies to directly employ delivery workers, opening a fight over the "last mile" of the city's delivery economy. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Monday that five government-owned grocery stores planned for the city's five boroughs will offer a 30 percent discount on produce, meat and other kitchen staples. The first store is set to open in the Bronx toward the end of 2027, with all five operational by the end of the mayor's four-year term.
