  • The National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report said Thursday that the relocation of Marine One's helipad amid the White House construction work contributed to an August 4 close call between the presidential helicopter and an Embraer E170 passenger jet at Reagan National Airport.
  • Communication issues prevented the Marine One crew from delivering the required three-minute pre-takeoff notice to air traffic controllers, the NTSB found.
  • The helicopter and jet came within 0.82 nautical miles laterally and 700 feet vertically, closer than FAA separation rules require.
  • The FAA has relocated an antenna and changed procedures since the August 4 incident; controllers briefly lost contact with Marine One again on Thursday as Trump headed to Texas, the AP reported.
