A Hendersonville, North Carolina, woman said she was preparing to discard a scratch-off lottery ticket when she decided to scan it and discovered it was a $1 million winner.
Melissa Johnson told the North Carolina Education Lottery that she bought a $10 Loteria Multiplier ticket from Rock Convenience on Chimney Rock Road in Hendersonville. She initially thought the ticket was a non-winner and was about to throw it away.
Johnson said she decided to scan the ticket to double-check that it was a dud. The scan revealed the ticket was worth $1 million.
“My heart was beating so fast,” Johnson said. “I started screaming.”
Johnson said she will share her prize money with her family.
“I worked so hard in my life,” Johnson said. “I never thought this would happen.”
