The Wall Street Journal on Friday opened voting for its June House of the Month, presenting readers with three distinct architectural options: a home inspired by George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, a Maine Colonial featuring a spring-fed pond, and a Colorado residence built around two sheds dating to the early 1900s.
The vote is part of the Journal’s ongoing House of the Month series, which throughout 2025 has showcased a variety of architectural styles and locations across the country. Each month, readers have selected their favorite from a set of properties featured in the Journal’s Mansion section. The June vote will determine which of the three contenders is named the month’s winner.
Kerry Barger, a senior platform editor for the Journal’s Mansion section, wrote the article. Barger also writes the WSJ Homes newsletter, which received the top award for Best Newsletter from the National Association of Real Estate Editors in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024, according to her bio.
The Journal’s House of the Month series has been running for over a year. In a social media post, the Journal noted that over the past 12 months it has featured “spaceship-like homes in Ohio and curved mansions in hilly San Francisco.” The publication is also running a separate vote for House of the Year, asking readers to choose among the monthly winners from 2025.
Barger previously worked as the digital editor of the Real Deal, a real-estate industry news publication based in New York City, and began her career managing a community newspaper in Carmel, New York.
