Loomer had previously called Ukraine a ‘country full of Nazi apologists.’
Laura Loomer, an ally of President Donald Trump, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Thursday, the Associated Press reported, capping a reversal in her position on the war that could have political reverberations back in Washington.
Loomer, whom the AP described as having a reputation for incendiary social media comments, had spent years minimizing Russia’s invasion and amplifying narratives the AP characterized as Russian propaganda to her nearly 2 million followers on X. Prior to her visit, she had described Ukraine as a “country full of Nazi apologists,” a characterization that the AP reported echoes a claim used by Russia to justify its invasion. She also said the country was “led by a Jihadi apologist.”
After experiencing an air raid in Ukraine, Loomer wrote on X: “Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is everyday for every Ukrainian.” She added, “I often said I don’t care. Looking back, that wasn’t very nice of me to say.”
The AP reported no further details on the content of Loomer’s meeting with Zelenskyy.
