New duties take effect as provisional tariffs expire
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered new tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 countries, acting a day before the expiration of the provisional tariffs he had put in place after an adverse Supreme Court ruling.
The affected nations represent 99% of all products entering the United States from abroad, according to the administration. The new levies will take effect as Trump’s provisional tariffs expire.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the administration determined that trading partners had not done enough to enforce prohibitions on goods produced through forced labor.

The new tariffs replace provisional levies Trump ordered after the Supreme Court’s decision against his earlier trade authority, according to the administration. The action represents the administration’s continued use of tariffs to press trading partners on labor enforcement.
