Mother of victim tells court: ‘I do not forgive, Mr Gray’
Colt Gray was 14 years old when he opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, in September 2024, killing two students and two teachers. He was charged as an adult with 55 counts including malice murder, weapons violations, and cruelty to children.
On Friday, Gray entered a non-negotiated guilty plea in Barrow County Superior Court, meaning there will be no trial. He faces a life sentence, the BBC reported.
During the proceedings, Breanna Schermerhorn, the mother of one of the victims, delivered a victim impact statement. She described waking every day to the reality that her 14-year-old son is dead. “I do not forgive, Mr Gray,” she told the court, according to the BBC.
Gray’s father, Colin Gray, was convicted of murder in March for giving his son the gun used in the shooting as a Christmas present. A jury in Barrow County found Colin Gray guilty of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, as MSI previously reported.
