Delaware suit alleges ‘years of escalating harms’ from platform use
The families of four teenagers who died by suicide are suing social media companies Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in the Superior Court of Delaware.
The complaint was filed on behalf of families from Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota and Tennessee, whose children died over a 14-month period beginning in July 2024 and ending in September 2025.
The Social Media Victims Law Center, a firm that has brought numerous similar suits, is representing the families. Founding attorney Matthew Bergman said it is “particularly salient” that the children died “long after” other lawsuits had been filed, suggesting the companies should have been on notice about the dangers of their platforms.
The suit alleges “years of escalating harms” from the platforms’ use contributed to the teens’ deaths, and the filing adds to an ongoing wave of litigation arguing that social media services are addictive and dangerous for young users.
