Quarterly net sales climb 9.4% to $9.46 billion
Cummins posted a second-quarter profit of $932 million, up from $890 million a year earlier, but earnings of $6.73 a share fell short of the $7.21 analysts had expected, according to FactSet. The company said the period included $29 million, or 21 cents a share, of unfavorable discrete tax items that pressured earnings. Shares fell 9.2% to $589.07 in premarket trading after the results missed expectations.
Cummins raised its full-year revenue outlook after reporting higher quarterly profit and sales. “We’re raising our financial outlook for 2026 as demand continues to outpace expectations across several key markets,” Chief Executive Jennifer Rumsey said. “North American truck markets continue to improve, while demand for data center power generation remains robust.”
The company now expects 2026 revenue to grow 10% to 13%, up from its previous forecast of 8% to 11% growth. Cummins attributed the higher forecast to accelerating orders for standby power for data centers and improving North American truck markets.
Net sales for the quarter climbed 9.4% to $9.46 billion, ahead of Wall Street models for $9.33 billion. The engine business contributed roughly $3.1 billion in sales, up about 6%, while the components segment posted sales of about $2.9 billion, up roughly 7%. Sales also grew in the distribution, power systems and Accelera segments.
