Rossi says she never worried Clancy could harm herself or her children
Elaine Rossi took the stand on the seventh day of Clancy’s murder trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, describing what she observed in the months before the killings. Clancy lost significant weight, was unable to sleep, and raised concerns about her own postpregnancy mental health, Rossi told jurors.
Rossi told the jury she never considered Clancy a danger to herself or to her children. “I observed a wonderful mom who loved her kids,” Rossi said. “She was concerned about their safety, and Callan eating and sleeping. She was a wonderful mother.”
Rossi had served as the family’s nanny. Her testimony covered Clancy’s condition in the months before Jan. 24, 2023, when Clancy strangled her three children: Callan, Dawson, and Cora Clancy, who ranged in age from 8 months to 5 years.
The defense argues Clancy was overtaken by postpartum psychosis, a psychiatric condition that afflicts a small proportion of women after childbirth and disrupts their hold on reality. Prosecutors contend Clancy acted intentionally and should be held criminally responsible for the deaths.
