Reagan National lists 364 departures, down from 427
Reagan National Airport’s schedule for Aug. 23 lists 364 departures, compared with 427 previously listed. The reduction comes as the airport prepares for a planned pause in flight operations during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
The FAA expects the pause to last from 10:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. EDT. The agency said the timing could change.
The race is scheduled to take place on city streets in Washington, D.C. Trump is hosting it as part of the America 250 celebration of the anniversary of America’s founding.
The FAA said it has been coordinating with stakeholders ahead of the event. “The FAA has been planning and coordinating with stakeholders to help ensure the safe and efficient movement of air traffic during Freedom 250 events,” the agency said in a statement.
The race was set forth by an executive order Trump signed last year. The order directed his administration to prepare for an event to “showcase the majesty of our great city.”
The planned pause follows other events ordered by Trump that put flight operations on hold, including a military parade last summer and Fourth of July festivities this year.
