Sheriff deputies find body of 58-year-old woman in Delaware County
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett declared a local emergency on Friday and used a Saturday briefing to urge residents along the White River to evacuate. By Saturday, the city’s emergency crews had rescued several dozen people along the river, bringing both residents and their pets to safety as operations continued.
The damage extended along the river corridor from Hamilton County into the northern Indianapolis suburbs, with heavy rains resulting in creeks and streams swelling throughout central Indiana.
Farther east, in Delaware County, sheriff deputies on Friday found the body of a 58-year-old woman. Investigators believe she died after attempting to drive through floodwaters.
The flooding was what many described as historic, with emergency managers at Hogsett’s Saturday briefing saying the day’s totals would continue to climb as rescues continued along the river corridor.
