Weather Service: cold front to push storm system off East Coast Tuesday
At least seven people have died in Indiana after days of storms and flooding, and thunderstorms, heavy rain and flash flooding continued Monday across a swath of the United States from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic.
In Indiana, days of storms and flooding left at least seven people dead. Floodwaters receded on Indianapolis’s White River by Sunday, and rain eased in other parts of the state.
The National Weather Service said repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms would continue for one more day. Forecasters expected a cold front to sweep the weather pattern off the East Coast by Tuesday.
Much of West Virginia, southeast Ohio and northeast Kentucky remained under flood watches through Monday evening, with high water from previous storms increasing the possibility of flash flooding.
A flood warning covered part of Randolph County in east central Indiana Monday morning, where thunderstorms had dropped between 1 and 2 inches of rain by 8 a.m.
