Russian 2022 Viasat hack prompted the underlying technology
Atalanta has released “Argo,” an AI-assisted cybersecurity product built around technology that helped secure Viasat’s satellite communications network after a 2022 Russian cyberattack, the company said.
Argo includes the technology that was instrumental in restoring service to Viasat’s network after Russia disabled thousands of satellite modems across Ukraine and other European countries on the same day it invaded Ukraine in 2022, aiming to disrupt communications.
The release comes amid reported concerns about continued Russian aggression and newer Iranian threats to cyber infrastructure.
Atalanta’s leaders describe the technology underpinning Argo as “software understanding,” combining complex mathematics with artificial intelligence. According to the company, Argo is the first commercially available system capable of analyzing software and internet-connected systems for vulnerabilities in a more comprehensive manner than prior approaches.
Industry experts said the tool presents a new capability for those trying to defend critical systems in what they described as the emerging cyberwarfare theater.
