USS Abraham Lincoln set US military record for time at sea

The Saturday arrest of Luis Manuel Aviles in Key West, Florida, ended with his release from immigration detention, his family told The Associated Press.

Argelia Aviles, his wife, said the 48-year-old was taken into custody after stepping out of the house to take his car to a mechanic. Aviles, originally from Nicaragua, has lived in the United States for 19 years, she said.

Aviles works as a handyman in Key West and holds a permit to work in the country, his wife told the AP. The detention occurred while his son Joshua is deployed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, a U.S. Navy carrier.

The Lincoln has been in the Middle East for nine months and set the U.S. military record for uninterrupted time at sea, according to the AP. The case was first reported by AP reporter Safiyah Riddle.
