Trump linked Memorial damage to unproven Reflecting Pool vandalism claims
The two felony counts against Farris stem from an Aug. 13 incident in which she is suspected of spray-painting the phrase “Clean hands dirty $” on the monument and filling the memorial’s fountain with bubbles.
A federal judge ordered Farris released after her initial court appearance on Aug. 17. Her arraignment on the indictment is scheduled for next week. An attorney for Farris did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Friday.
President Donald Trump posted about the Memorial damage on social media alongside his repeated claims — made without providing evidence — that vandals had damaged the nearby Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The federal case followed U.S. Park Police’s investigation of the Aug. 13 vandalism and the Justice Department’s Aug. 14 announcement that it would file two felony charges.
