White House separately partners with North American Blue Energy Partners

WASHINGTON — Chevron is expected to soon announce it will expand operations in Venezuela, a U.S. official said Tuesday. Company executives and Energy Secretary Chris Wright are scheduled to travel there on Wednesday where the company’s new investment will be formally unveiled. The official briefed reporters on the expected announcement under ground rules set by the White House for the call and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Chevron is the second-largest U.S. oil company and the only one of the major U.S. oil firms with a major presence in Venezuela.

That position distinguishes the company from larger U.S. competitors that lack comparable operations in the country.

The Wednesday visit will pair the Energy Secretary with Chevron executives, with the company’s new investment to be formally unveiled during the trip.

The expected Chevron announcement comes a day after the White House confirmed on Monday it is partnering with North American Blue Energy Partners.

The two announcements are part of President Donald Trump’s push to tap into Venezuela’s oil industry.
