FDA recalls Halloween chocolate eyeballs over undeclared milk

Allergic consumers urged to avoid candy; no illnesses reported

The recalled product is Halloween Chocolate Eyeballs, made by Crystal Temptations of North Arlington, N.J., the FDA announced Monday. The package label does not declare milk, and people with a milk allergy could suffer a life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the candy, the agency warned.

The candy was sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Sierra Trading Post, the FDA said. It was distributed in 13 states: Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio and Wyoming.

The recall covers five product configurations, the FDA said:

• “Crystal Temptations” plastic bag with designed header card - Chocolatey Eyeballs, 10 oz. (54040-CHEY)
• “Crystal Temptations” acrylic box with designed paper wrap - Chocolatey Eyeballs, 7 oz. (54077-CHEY)
• “Crystal Temptations” round plastic jar - Chocolatey Eyeballs, 10.5 oz. (58008-CHEY)
• “Crystal Temptations” designer plastic pouch bag - Chocolatey Eyeballs, 16 oz. (58089-CHEY)
• “Crystal Temptations” plastic bag tied with a tag - Chocolatey Eyeballs, 11 oz. (54083-CHEY)

No illnesses had been reported as of the FDA notice. The agency urged consumers who bought any of the recalled products to destroy the candy and to contact Crystal Temptations directly for a refund.
