WSJ publishes video recalling its 9/11 coverage from across the street

WSJ reporters gathered street-level accounts before evacuation to Princeton

The Wall Street Journal’s main newsroom was right across the street from the World Trade Center in September 2001, according to a video the paper published on the attacks’ 25th anniversary. After the first plane hit, WSJ reporters began gathering firsthand accounts on the street, the paper said in a description accompanying the video. As the newsroom was evacuated, the coverage operation moved to Princeton, New Jersey.

The video was written and produced by Nikki Walker, a video journalist on the WSJ YouTube development team, and published on September 11, 2026.

Three senior Dow Jones and WSJ figures appear in the video recounting the events of the day: Dave Pettit, Managing Editor of Dow Jones; Wendy Bounds, head of content at the WSJ Leadership Institute; and Alan Murray, president of the WSJ Leadership Institute. They describe the events of September 11, 2001, according to the paper.

Walker is a video journalist on the WSJ YouTube development team in New York, where she focuses on creating new series for the channel. She previously worked as an associate video journalist for the Journal, where she produced features, series and explainers, as well as breaking news videos. She has interned for NBC and Investor’s Business Daily and graduated from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
