War projected to cost $2-3 billion a month in additional costs
The Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan congressional watchdog, estimates that the Pentagon spent approximately $38 billion in the first few months of the war with Iran and will need at least five years to replace the missile interceptors expended defending U.S. troops and bases.
The CBO’s projection also includes an additional $2 billion to $3 billion in monthly costs as the conflict continues, on top of the $38 billion already spent.
The assessment comes as President Trump works to determine his next steps in the war. Iran has not agreed to Trump’s demands to relinquish its nuclear program, and Trump has pivoted to economic pressure.
