FBI task force arrested Proia after two months, 40-plus messages
Federal prosecutors have charged a Massachusetts man with a single count of cyberstalking for allegedly harassing Katie Miller, the wife of White House aide Stephen Miller.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested John Anthony Proia III, 41, on allegations that he called and left voice and text messages for Miller and her parents that were “disturbing” in nature.
Prosecutors said the alleged cyberstalking took place over the past two months and involved more than 40 phone and text messages.
The messages came from multiple phone numbers and used “a menacing tone” and obscene language, prosecutors said. The communications concerned Katie Miller and her husband, Stephen Miller.
The indictment did not identify Miller as the victim, but sources familiar with the case confirmed her name to The New York Times, The Washington Post and NBC News.
“The defendant repeatedly and relentlessly targeted the victim, her husband and her family with deeply disturbing communications that profoundly disrupted their lives,” U.S. Attorney Leah Foley said.
Proia was released from custody after an initial appearance in federal court.
