Guardian’s Today in Focus podcast examines the bomber withdrawal

The Pentagon criticised the release of all six suspects in the alleged RAF Fairford terror-plot investigation on bail, The Guardian reported. At least 10 B-1 bombers used by the U.S. military in the Iran conflict flew out of Fairford on Sunday, the newspaper said, in a move that suggested U.S. officials were taking the alleged threat seriously.

The Guardian examined the criticism and the U.S. decision to relocate the aircraft in an episode of its Today in Focus podcast, presented by Lucy Hough. Defence and security editor Dan Sabbagh discussed the Pentagon’s criticism of the bail decision, according to the newspaper. The episode, titled “Why did the US withdraw bombers from RAF Fairford? – The Latest,” is available on YouTube.

The arrests that preceded the withdrawal began last week, when five men travelling in three vans were detained near the base. A sixth suspect, a British-Iranian national, was subsequently arrested in connection with the investigation. All six were released on bail, a decision that drew the Pentagon’s criticism.
