Last year’s winner Machado presented her award to Trump

The Norwegian Nobel Committee was set to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate on Friday, October 9, according to The Guardian’s Europe Live blog.

The Guardian’s preamble to its October 9 live coverage recalled that “Last year’s peace prize was won by Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado for her dogged struggle to rescue the South American country from its fate as ‘a brutal, authoritarian state.’”

The Guardian further reported that Machado “later presented her award to Donald Trump, meeting him in the White House, nearly a fortnight after he ordered the abduction of Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro.”
