Committees at both firms have yet to agree on terms
Elon Musk said a Tesla-SpaceX merger is under active consideration and would be “a good idea,” telling financial analysts Tuesday that special committees within both companies have been formed to review a potential transaction.
Musk made the remarks during a call with analysts over SpaceX’s quarterly business results. “Do I think it would be a good idea? Yes,” Musk said.
Musk cautioned that the certainty of any deal should not be assumed and said a transaction would need shareholder support.
He said special committees within both companies have been formed to consider the potential transaction. “The special committees have not reached agreement on terms of any transaction and there’s no guarantee that they will,” Musk said.
“But I do think there is a lot of merit to merging and a lot to be gained,” he added.
Tesla and SpaceX are two of Musk’s most notable companies.
BBC News said the story was being updated and more details would be published shortly.
