Musk likely to face questions on Starship, satellite network, merger

SpaceX is scheduled to hold its first quarterly earnings call since going public, and investors in Elon Musk’s space company are set to get the chance to question him on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. The call comes as SpaceX shares have fallen to half their June peak, and investors are grappling with concerns about whether Musk oversold the company’s future prospects.

Musk is likely to be asked about when he expects to finish testing SpaceX’s giant Starship rockets, which NASA hopes to use to put men on the moon again, the AP reported. His plans for the company’s satellite network and the prospects of putting football-field-sized datacenters in orbit are also expected to come up. The AP described Musk as “part visionary engineer, part stock salesman.”

Given rumors of SpaceX possibly merging with Musk’s Tesla car company, he may also face questions about a tie-up, though the AP said that exchange is likely to yield few details. Neither company has confirmed plans for a combination, and Musk has previously parried questions by noting that securities regulations bar him from discussing the issue.

Some company insiders get the opportunity to sell shares after the expiration of what’s known as a lockup provision later in the week, according to the AP. Investors are bracing for volatile trading as the lockup period ends.
