Prosecutors seek life terms as defense asks for 15-year minimums
Oren and Alon Alexander, 39-year-old twins, and their 40-year-old brother Tal Alexander are scheduled to appear before Caproni in New York on Tuesday for sentencing after their sex-trafficking convictions in March. Prosecutors have asked Caproni to sentence each brother to life in prison, while defense lawyers have asked for the 15-year minimum. Nearly a dozen women who were victimized are expected to make statements at the hearing.
In a court filing, prosecutors said at least 70 women were raped or sexually assaulted by the men. The filing called the brothers “serial rapists.”
Prosecutors said the brothers began sexually assaulting women as early as 2001 or 2002, when they were in high school, and developed a pattern over time of drugging and raping women they enticed to join them on luxury getaways.
Oren and Tal Alexander were once nicknamed real estate’s “A Team” for their ultra-high-end sales and celebrity clientele. After they smashed sales records at Douglas Elliman, the brothers started their own firm. Alon Alexander ran the family’s private security company.
The brothers projected an exclusive lifestyle of yachts, private jets and waterfront mansions in Miami. Prosecutors said they exploited their wealth, proximity to celebrities and access to luxury real estate to help them drug and rape women.
Defense lawyers said the brothers apologized to women they had insulted or offended and admitted their conduct was “insensitive toward the feelings of certain women at certain times.” The lawyers also maintained the brothers’ innocence.
The brothers were arrested in 2024 and have been held without bail ever since.
Caproni has said she believes the brothers should not be incarcerated in the same prison because they were a bad influence on one another. Their lawyers plan to argue that they belong together even behind bars.
