The Guardian reported voter discontent over oil-price spike since Trump attacked Iran
Donald Trump staged a rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Tuesday beside the vast oil tanker Angerona. Trump said the vessel had just arrived from Venezuela carrying what he described as a personal gift for him: a million barrels of oil. The rally came as The Guardian reported widespread voter discontent over a spike in oil prices since Trump attacked Iran.
The Guardian characterized Trump’s oil-price claim as a lie, quoting him saying, “our gasoline prices are lower than when Barack Hussein Obama – our oil prices, gasoline, lower than they were with Obama.”
A senior State Department official told the Associated Press that the US “will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family and allow them entry into the United States.”
The Guardian reported that, in remarks to supporters in Lubbock, Texas, Trump criticized James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate, for showing compassion for transgender children who demonstrated for their rights at the Texas state capitol in 2023.
In a separate legal development, federal judge Michael Seabright ruled on Tuesday that Republican Bill Essayli was not legally serving as the top U.S. prosecutor in Los Angeles. Seabright said Essayli could no longer participate in or supervise two ongoing criminal prosecutions where the attorneys had challenged his position. The order would not take effect immediately, and the Department of Justice said it intended to appeal.
The ruling grew out of a long-running legal battle challenging the Trump administration’s maneuvers to keep Essayli in office despite the absence of Senate confirmation. The Guardian described Essayli, a former Republican state lawmaker, as an ally of Donald Trump. Essayli became interim U.S. attorney in April 2025 without a formal presidential nomination, allowing him to lead the office without the standard confirmation process.
After Essayli’s “interim” appointment ended in July, the Trump administration gave him an “acting” title. After a judge ruled that he was unlawfully serving as U.S. attorney, the administration kept him on as a “first assistant.” In August, a federal appellate court ruled against a Nevada justice department leader in a similar case. Seabright cited that higher court’s ruling on Tuesday before issuing another order saying Essayli was still acting unlawfully.
Seabright said Essayli was illegally serving even with the Trump administration’s “special attorney” and “first assistant” designations.
Essayli said in a Tuesday statement, “We respectfully disagree with the court’s order.” He added, “The President and the Attorney General have every right to select supervisors within the Justice Department.”
The Corpus Christi appearance centered Trump’s response to oil prices and his account of a million-barrel Venezuelan cargo. The reported visa plan, his criticism of Talarico and the Essayli ruling were separate developments rather than connected parts of the rally.
