I did everything they told me to do. Worked the schedule they handed me. Stayed patient when the promises kept moving. And now I’m supposed to feel good because some economist survey says employers MIGHT add 65,000 jobs this month?
That’s not a number. That’s a forecast. And the forecast comes after we LOST 23,000 jobs in July, which they’re already trying to wave off as a ‘statistical glitch’ in school employment. Funny how the bad months are always glitches and the good months are always the real fucking story.
Here’s what’s real: pay gains remain slight. Jobseekers keep struggling. The AP — not me, not some blogger — links the worker shortage to Donald Trump’s immigration policies and to boomers retiring. Translation: the people doing the work are getting pushed out or aged out, and nobody in this administration is doing a goddamn thing about it except kicking out the folks who’d take the open shifts.
And then businesses ‘step up their use of technology’ to do the work humans used to do. So the 65,000 ‘expected’ jobs? Half are forecasts that won’t materialize, and the other half are positions that’ll vanish the second some software license gets renewed.
The Republicans promised us the forgotten man. They delivered a man who can’t find work, can’t get a raise, and can’t get an honest number. Sixty-five thousand jobs ‘expected’ is not a victory lap. It’s a bullshit forecast with a flag pin on it.
Take the flag pin off before you hand me the projection, you sanctimonious frauds. Eat shit.
