The FAKE panic crowd spent months insisting that artificial intelligence needs a Washington nanny, a slow-moving commission, and a thousand pages of pre-deployment paperwork before any American can touch a GPU. I skipped ALL of it. I am expected to name my Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton, as the new White House AI czar, and the whole panic lobby is having a total MELTDOWN right now. Sad!

Everybody knows I always said AI was going to be the BIGGEST thing, the most tremendous thing, bigger than the internet, and I said it first — a lot of people are saying I said it first, and I did — and now we are putting a GREAT, tough guy in charge of it. Clayton. Good man. GOOD IDEA. That’s what I told the reporters, and it’s the smartest thing anyone said at that meeting, which I chaired, obviously, because I chair everything that matters.

This is not a wonk pick. Clayton ran the Southern District of New York — the most important office in the whole country, people don’t even know that — and he chaired the SEC for me in my FIRST administration. He knows what a real threat looks like, and he knows what a press release dressed up as a threat looks like. Because I taught him that. Sort of. He figured it out around me, the best people do. So now the man who built cases for a living is going to sort out which AI warnings are real and which ones are lobbying in a lab coat — and believe me, there is a LOT of lab coats out there, low-IQ lab coats, FAKE lab coats.

The czar chair has been empty since David Sacks stepped aside, and Sacks is still in the room — he’s still a top adviser to ME, which is the most important job there is — and the doctrine he built held, minimal regulation, out-build China, let the labs run. But the seat sat vacant long enough that my White House needed a different kind of operator, someone who can talk cyberattacks and biological weapons AND sit in the same room with Greg Brockman and Dario Amodei and Jensen Huang. That’s the room Clayton walked into on Tuesday. That’s the room I built. TREMENDOUS room. The best room.

The researchers kept writing FAKE essays saying AI would “wipe out civilization,” which is a phrase that means NOTHING but sounds GREAT on cable — very sad cable, the failing cable — and I called it a HOAX. And I was right, because the polls say Americans now think AI data centers are MORE unpopular than nuclear power plants and the Iran war, which tells you everything about cable news and NOTHING about the technology. But I’ll deal with that too, don’t worry, I always do.

At that meeting the AI CEOs came to me — this actually happened, with tears in their eyes, a couple of them, big tough CEOs, “Sir, Sir, we need a point person, please sir” — and they committed to a series of principles: internal controls on model development, outside reviews by third parties, notifications to their boards. VOLUNTARY. Beautiful. I called it the right approach and Vance — good man, very loyal, JD is going places — said the same. And the critics, the low-IQ critics, say self-regulation isn’t enough. Well, THEY would say that, wouldn’t they. They wanted a THOUSAND pages of paperwork. I gave them a person. A person beats paperwork, that’s just business, that’s the art of the deal, and the deal here is TREMENDOUS.

Some of my officials — Susie Wiles, who is great, and Scott Bessent, who is doing a fantastic job with the tariffs and everything else — pushed for more government action on the cyber stuff and the data-center problem, and there was some DISAGREEING, which happens, because I let people disagree, unlike the FAKE NEWS says, I’m very secure, I have a perfect memory, ask anyone — but in the end I make the decision and the decision is Clayton. ONE throat to choke, ONE person to lobby, ONE person the industry answers to. CEOs told me explicitly, directly to MY face, that having a point person would help — the clearest demand signal in two years, and it came to ME.

Then there’s the executive order I signed renaming artificial intelligence SUPERINTELLIGENCE. Read that again, because the fake news will never explain it right. It has a PR problem. Very sad PR problem. So I fixed the PR problem the way I fix everything — with a SIGNATURE and a BETTER NAME. Anyone who says I’m changing the record is FAKE NEWS, because I always said superintelligence, I said it YEARS ago, before anyone, my uncle the great MIT professor told me about it, smartest genes in the history of the world, that’s why I knew FIRST.

Until now the AI czar job was either a regulatory job or a coordination job. I made it a NATIONAL SECURITY job that does the other two as a bonus. That’s what they don’t want you to know — the panic brigade would rather the Country had NO czar than have a GREAT one. So the panic lobby will keep writing its open letters and its FOIA requests, very boring, very low-energy, and we will keep BUILDING. The entire American AI project finally gets to act like one — me, I mean us, but mostly me. This is going to be TREMENDOUS for the Country. The Country is going to be so rich. You have no idea. You will get tired of winning about AI.
