Authorities arrested Jaden J Read, 24, of Clearwater, Kansas, last Saturday after he allegedly posted threats to kill Donald Trump before a rally in the Wichita area on Monday, according to the justice department. Read was taken into federal custody and will remain there pending a detention hearing after the district of Kansas filed a criminal complaint against him for making threats against the president. According to federal authorities, a Crime Stoppers tip on 15 October led investigators to a Facebook post responding to a KAKE News article about Trump’s upcoming Wichita visit; authorities separately found two additional comments allegedly posted by Read in response to a KWCH 12 News article about the planned visit.

President Donald Trump launched a 32-day midterm campaign blitz on Thursday, beginning a swing through reliably Republican states as members of his own party publicly questioned whether his signature rallies help or hurt GOP candidates facing voters in November. The Guardian reported that Trump is expected to hold five to seven rallies per week before the elections, with his first stops in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio and Nebraska — all states that have voted Republican in recent presidential contests.
The Guardian reported that Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low, citing voter anger over the cost of living, the Iran war and what the paper described as excessive immigration crackdowns. Republicans face the prospect of losing their narrow congressional majorities in next month's midterms, with generic-ballot surveys showing Democrats leading by close to double digits.
