Missile strike reveals challenges in protecting troops from Iranian attacks
An Iranian ballistic missile struck U.S. troop housing at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan during one of three separate missile attacks on the base within 24 hours last week, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
The attack killed two soldiers assigned to Army air and missile defense units, the officials said. The remains of a third person were discovered at the impact site and are undergoing examination.
Three missiles were able to penetrate U.S. air defenses across the series of strikes, pointing to the challenges in protecting American forces against Iranian missile and drone attacks, officials said.
Mediators have continued working to push the United States and Iran toward a new ceasefire.
