Three other swing-state fake-elector prosecutions have already been dropped
A Nevada judge on Thursday dismissed the yearslong criminal case against six Nevada Republicans accused of submitting a fraudulent certificate falsely declaring Donald Trump the winner of the state’s 2020 presidential election.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, a Democrat who is also running for governor, had charged the six defendants with forgery and offering a false instrument for filing or record. All six had pleaded not guilty.
The ruling adds to a string of setbacks for state prosecutors who have pursued fake elector cases in the swing states where the 2020 scheme was coordinated. Three other cases — in Arizona, Michigan, and Georgia — have also been dismissed.
In Arizona, Attorney General Kris Mayes recently dismissed her office’s criminal case but vowed to bring it back to a grand jury in hopes of securing another indictment. The dismissal was a procedural maneuver aimed at getting around a deadline for starting new grand jury proceedings after Mayes lost an appeal earlier in June.
