Defense builds case around Clancy’s mental state in months before 2023 deaths
Lindsay Clancy was “begging for help” in the months before she killed her three children and attempted to end her own life, her former mother-in-law testified Tuesday for the defense in the fourth week of the murder trial.
Susan Clancy, mother of Patrick Clancy, said in Plymouth Superior Court that she and her former daughter-in-law were close. Susan Clancy, who worked as a labor and delivery nurse as Lindsay did, described Lindsay Clancy as a “wonderful mother” who was “very nurturing, very loving.”
“Lindsay was struggling — we were all concerned,” Susan Clancy said.
Susan Clancy’s account came a day after emotional testimony from Lindsay Clancy’s mother and sister, who told jurors they saw Lindsay Clancy become increasingly anxious, paranoid and suicidal starting in the fall of 2022.
Patrick Clancy found the Massachusetts couple’s children after they had been strangled in the family basement in January 2023. Lindsay Clancy attempted to take her own life that night and was left paralyzed. Lindsay Clancy and Patrick Clancy are now divorced.
