Sought woman co-founded group on first-responder mental health
WORCESTER, Mass. — Police are searching for a 58-year-old woman after a 31-year veteran off-duty police officer was found dead at a home in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Tuesday in what authorities described as a domestic matter.
The woman was at the house when the officer’s body was discovered, Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference. Local, state and federal agencies have joined the search for the woman, who may be armed, officials said.
Police were distributing flyers with the woman’s photograph to drivers in the Worcester area Wednesday morning as the multi-agency search continued.
The sought woman co-founded a group that focuses on suicide and mental health issues among first responders. Police and the Worcester County district attorney’s office did not immediately release the names of either the officer or the sought woman.
Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said state domestic violence rules and regulations limit what investigators can publicly disclose about the case.
“I can’t get into too much of it with regards to our domestic violence rules and regulations,” Early said at the news conference.
The officer was a 31-year veteran of the police force and was off-duty when found dead at the Worcester home. Police are investigating the death as a domestic matter.
