Vice president expected to expand campaign travel ahead of midterms
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Vice President JD Vance will speak Friday at Cleveland-Cliffs Middletown Works, the Ohio steel plant — formerly known as Armco Steel — where his grandfather James Vance worked for nearly 40 years.
He is set to campaign for Republican candidates ahead of the November midterm elections and to promote Trump administration policies aimed at expanding U.S. manufacturing.
In a radio interview Thursday on the “Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,” Vance said the visit would be “personally very meaningful” because of his family’s connection to the site. He said it was “an amazing opportunity for me to go talk about, frankly, plants like this wouldn’t exist were it not for some of the Trump administration’s economic policies.”
His public schedule is expected to expand with additional events and fundraisers, according to a person familiar with his plans who was not authorized to speak publicly and discussed it on condition of anonymity.
