Vance defends Trump Jesus image, muses if AI signals end times
Vice President JD Vance said on a Christian podcast released Tuesday that if the 2024 assassination attempt against President Donald Trump had succeeded, he would have always wondered whether it was part of a conspiracy and might not have accepted even another Republican as the next president.
Vance made the remarks during a conversation with Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford, according to the Associated Press. The discussion opened with a broader conversation about faith and the impulse to scientifically explain away events that may be divinely touched, before turning to political topics including the 2024 assassination attempt.
Vance cited the July 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which a bullet nicked Trump’s ear and a rally supporter was killed. The vice president said that had the attempt proved fatal, he would have always questioned the circumstances of Trump’s death.
Vance added that his doubts would have extended to any successor to Trump, including a fellow Republican.
During the same conversation, Vance defended President Trump for posting an image of himself as Jesus.
Vance also mused about whether artificial intelligence was a sign of the end times, a Christian theological concept referring to events heralding the return of Christ.
The podcast appearance comes after the recent release of Vance’s book about his conversion to Catholicism.
