Prosecutors argued Aug. 26 crash showed Morphew violated release terms
The crash in Denver on Aug. 26 occurred after Morphew had picked his daughter up at the airport, authorities said, and he then fled the scene. Prosecutors told the court the episode showed Morphew was not honoring the conditions of his release, which allowed him to leave home only for work or a medical emergency and required GPS location monitoring.
Morphew is charged with killing his wife, Suzanne Morphew. The case has proceeded in Alamosa County, where the charges were filed.
After Morphew’s arrest Friday, Hopkins amended his bond to $3 million cash only — meaning he could be released only by paying the full amount rather than having it guaranteed by a bondsman. At Tuesday’s hearing, she raised the amount to $10 million, according to the Associated Press, as prosecutors renewed their argument that Morphew posed a flight risk given the alleged bond breach.
