Unedited footage shows Charles reaching toward fainting worker
BBC News reported on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump shared an edited three-minute video on his Truth Social platform that appears to show King Charles shrugging and walking away from a man who fainted during a royal visit. The BBC described the post as misleading.
The clip of the King, the BBC reported, was taken from a longer video of Charles, then Prince of Wales, visiting an Asda supermarket distribution centre in Bristol in July 2020 during the Covid pandemic. According to the BBC, the full footage, which Trump did not use, shows Charles reaching out to the man as he fell and remaining nearby as the worker received medical attention. The video posted by Trump edits out that portion of the original clip.
The three-minute Truth Social video opens, the BBC reported, with footage of French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace as a guardsman appears to collapse behind him. The video then shows former President Joe Biden apparently checking his watch during a military repatriation ceremony and former President Barack Obama stepping off the Marine One helicopter and saluting US marines while holding a paper cup in his hand.
These are followed by a series of clips showing Trump picking up the cap of a US marine, saluting at a repatriation ceremony, and comforting the families of fallen soldiers, the BBC reported. Captions reading “the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you” and “the people’s president” appear during some of the clips, and the song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri plays throughout the video.
The BBC reported that the post was published on the US Labor Day holiday.
Buckingham Palace said the post was not something it would comment on, the BBC reported. The White House did not respond to the BBC’s request for comment.
Trump has frequently spoken of his good relationship with Charles and described him as “the greatest king in my book” at the end of the King and Queen’s state visit to the US in April, the BBC reported.
