Hosted by Annie Kelly with correspondent Jason Burke
The Guardian published a 13-minute video segment on September 11, 2026 examining how the September 11, 2001 attacks reshaped world politics on their 25th anniversary. The segment, titled “How 9/11 changed the world - The Latest,” is part of the newspaper’s “Today in Focus: The Latest” podcast series.
Annie Kelly hosts the segment and speaks with Jason Burke, the Guardian’s international security correspondent, about the attacks’ continuing global consequences. The Guardian’s description of the segment frames those consequences as a “dark legacy” that continues to unfold in the US and across the world.
“A throughline can be drawn from that day in 2001 to much of the geopolitics and conflicts of today,” the publication’s description states. The publication adds that the 2001 attacks killed almost 3,000 people in New York City, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania.
The segment aired on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
