Microsoft discusses AI limits as Altman warns of losing control
President Trump used his Truth Social account to dismiss warnings about artificial intelligence safety as a hoax that would financially cripple the U.S. industry and hand China a strategic advantage, according to the Wall Street Journal’s What’s News newsletter.
In a separate post, Trump questioned why AI industry leaders were calling for new regulation of the technology.
Microsoft on Monday became the latest major technology company to discuss limits on advanced AI models, the Journal reported. Separately, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warned in a post on X overnight that companies risk losing control of their AI systems as the technology advances.
China has also expressed concerns about the risks AI poses — including, in Beijing’s framing, the possibility of catastrophic outcomes — but has framed catching up to the U.S. in artificial intelligence as its priority.
The Journal’s newsletter did not specify which AI executives Trump was referring to in his post questioning why industry leaders were seeking regulation. It also did not identify which specific safety concerns Trump dismissed, beyond his general characterization of them as a hoax that would damage the industry and benefit China.
