The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.26% on Oct. 1, 2026, according to FRED data, reaching its highest level since May 2002. The Wall Street Journal, citing Tradeweb, reported the yield pushed past its 2007 intraday peak of 5.303% in afternoon trading Wednesday. Ford Motor’s F-150 pickup production was halted for about one week at a key Michigan truck assembly plant because of a supplier issue, CEO Jim Farley told reporters Wednesday. “It is impacting our third quarter wholesale, but I’m very optimistic,” Farley said on the sidelines of a company event in Detroit. The automaker sent a supply-chain team to address the problem, and fourth-quarter production shouldn’t be affected, according to Farley. “We’re on track,” Farley said.

In separate tax litigation that has drawn sustained attention, court fights over the phrase “and continuing” in President Trump’s 2020 Covid-19 pandemic disaster declaration could determine whether the government suspended tax deadlines for more than three years. WSJ reporter Richard Rubin, who has covered the issue since March 2020, reported that the House member who wrote the disaster-tax-deadline law argued the deadlines had been turned off indefinitely — a position the Internal Revenue Service quickly rejected. Rubin described the cases as carrying a “barbell effect” on the tax system, with most wage earners largely unaffected while large corporations and low-income or financially struggling taxpayers face the greatest stakes.
