Second assailant stopped mid-assault, telling deputies ‘north worth it’

Greene-Placentia’s campaign said it cannot afford additional security after the Democratic candidate for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District was raped in a Sun City parking lot in the early hours of Aug. 14, according to a UPI report published Oct. 8. Greene-Placentia told KNXV-TV that the weeks after the attack left her “furious,” citing 27 years and 4 million miles as a long-haul truck driver.

“The first couple of weeks after, I was very angry,” Greene-Placentia told KNXV-TV. “I was just so mad, after being a long-haul truck driver for 27 years, across 4 million miles, I had taken care of myself, and for something like this to happen so close to home, I was just furious.”

Greene-Placentia reported the attack to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 31. In her account to deputies, two men attacked her and knocked her unconscious. She said she awoke to one of the two raping her. She said the second began to rape her but stopped, saying “north worth it.”

She said she was left bruised and has experienced gaps in her memory.

Her campaign said it cannot afford additional security, but is taking extra precautions.

Greene-Placentia, who is challenging incumbent Republican Rep. Abe Hamadeh in the district north and west of Phoenix, said she did not know whether the attack was politically motivated.

“Maybe I was recognized, but I think it was probably a crime of opportunity,” she said. “I just don’t have a way of knowing.”

A spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, Hamadeh said he had read the account and called for authorities to investigate thoroughly.

“I have read the disturbing story and call upon authorities to investigate these serious allegations thoroughly, including finding all possible camera footage of the time and place in order to prosecute the crime to the fullest extent of the law,” Hamadeh said.

“No American should become a victim of a crime in their own community,” he said.
