Zacharia would replace Karoline Leavitt, who departed in late August

President Donald Trump has chosen conservative commentator Katie Zacharia to be the next White House press secretary, according to a White House official. The New York Times first reported the selection, which a White House official confirmed.

It was not immediately clear whether Zacharia had accepted the position. Zacharia would succeed Karoline Leavitt, who left the press secretary role at the end of August after giving birth to her second child. The role has remained unfilled in the weeks since her departure.

Zacharia previously worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security. She now serves as a communications adviser for the Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, the president’s social network.

The Guardian said additional details would be published as they become available.
