WSJ reported Guilfoyle solicited $100,000 from Trump donor

The White House asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece on Tuesday, according to White House press secretary Katie Zacharia. The resignation request followed a Wall Street Journal report that Guilfoyle solicited $100,000 from a Trump donor in the run-up to her Senate confirmation hearing last year.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well,” Zacharia said Tuesday.

The Journal’s article was reported by senior reporter Drew Hinshaw, with contributions from investigations team reporter Rebecca Ballhaus and national security reporter Vera Bergengruen.

The Wall Street Journal said updates would follow as the story develops.
