Police report 11 gunshot wounds, another injured; at least three seriously injured
Tallahassee police are investigating a shooting that authorities said left 11 people with gunshot wounds and injured another person. Florida A+M University said the shooting took place on Perry Street near its campus on Saturday night, while police counted six adults and six juveniles among those injured.
In a statement, the Tallahassee police said, “At least three of the shooting victims have sustained serious injuries, while nine others are reported to be in stable condition.”
Police chief Lawrence Revell said, “It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured.”
Tallahassee police said their violent crimes unit was investigating the circumstances. Initial findings showed a “physical altercation” preceded the shooting, police said, without elaborating.
The New York Post reported that an altercation at a homecoming party escalated into gunfire. The paper added that a fight between two or three individuals led to shots being fired just before 8 p.m.
The Post also reported that the youngest of those shot was 11. Police did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Florida A+M said on X, “The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority.”
