Five of the injured released from hospital; police say no arrests made

In a Sunday morning update, the Tallahassee Police Department said five of the people injured in the shooting outside Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium had been released from the hospital. Of those still hospitalized, one was in critical condition, police said.

The department’s news release said, “Preliminary information indicates at least 12 individuals were injured during the incident, including 11 who sustained gunshot wounds,” and added, “Of the 12 known victims, six are adults and six are juveniles.” Tallahassee police said the people injured included multiple minors. The release said three of the victims sustained “serious injuries” while the others were in stable condition.

At a news conference after the shooting, TPD Chief Lawrence Revell said he believed one of the victims was a grandmother. Revell said in a statement, “As our detectives work to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible, we remain committed to getting answers for these families.”

During the news conference, Revell said police believed the shooting began as a confrontation between two or three people. The department said its violent crimes unit was investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no arrests had been made.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday on Perry Street, near Bragg Memorial Stadium, the Tallahassee Police Department said. Florida A&M had hosted the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff team in a 3 p.m. homecoming game that finished up around 6 p.m., WCTV-TV in Tallahassee reported.

Florida A&M released a statement on X saying the school was monitoring the situation. “Our hearts go out to the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident,” the school statement said. “While the campus remains safe, individuals are encouraged to avoid the area to allow law enforcement to conduct its investigation.”
